I initially posted this in the IVU Thread, but at this point, not believing that many people thread view that thread anymore because basically for the most part it is nothing

but a political circus pitting several people against each re: Trump and to a lesser extent with Biden, I decided to open a thread with the message I posted over there.

In all honesty, I don't believe that this is going to be a very active post, but my overall and only intention of doing it is to at least have those who are interested read it and take

it for what it is worth from my first-hand experience because imo the immigration issue itself is very important, and the more that it is posted about it the better!!

Here you go:

"I wasn't going to say anything about it because there is enough controversy in this thread already but upon further review

I decided to do so because it is very relevant and it might just give anyone who reads and/or contributes to this thread something to

think about.

Anyways, to cut to the chase my wife has a 28-year-old nephew in Colombia who took an instrumental part in raising him.

The nephew was raising his four-year-old son in Colombia but because of the economic conditions there having great

difficulty in finding a job to support himself and his child.

To cut to the chase, under normal circumstances it would have taken many months to petition him and his son and get them

a visa from Colombia to the United States.

However with the expiration of Title 42, with the help of an attorney, we found a way to get them here through Mexico, which

unlike the US does not require a Visa for entry.

I am not going to bore you with all of the details, but suffice it to say that even though it was a long time consuming and grueling

experience for them with the flight to Mexico and then multiple bus trips to and between Mexico City and other cities

in Mexico and San Antonio we were able to get them to our home in western Mass which is very large and has

several unoccupied bedrooms here last Saturday.

AND YES THIS IS ALL 100% LEGAL AND HE HAS THE PAPERWORK TO PROVE IT!!

I am sure in the future he will have some interviews and questions asked by the US Immigration to meet the requirements, get a SS

Card, etc. but for now it is all on the up and up!!

The best part of this is this guy is no freeloader and wanted to work as soon as possible to support himself and his son even though

he speaks virtually no English!!

My wife and her friends are devout Evangelical Christians and one of them has contacts in the landscaping business and was able

to get him a job immediately cutting lawns starting yesterday!!

I wanted to give him at least a week to recover from the travel ordeal and to adjust over here but he was so motivated that

he wanted to walk right away!!

My wife and I watch and take care of his very cute, adorable, intelligent and independent(much more independent than US-born

children that's by necessity that's for sure)!!

To be honest, at first at my age, I was very hesitant to add new people to my household.

But now that they are here, I am very happy that my wife and I did so as it gives us a feeling of satisfaction that we are improving

a lot of several people who might otherwise be stuck in a rut in Colombia for many years if not for their entire lives!!

Finally, although it is only a very small sample size, perhaps those who read this and who have preconceived notions that those

who cross the border from Mexico to the US are nothing but lazy freeloaders looking only for a free meal ticket to the US, drug

dealers, etc., will at least consider my story here and open their minds to the possibility that there may be other similar

stories!!

Thanks to those who took the trouble to read this!!

ps And yes to be blunt and truthful, I believe that I am doing God's intended work for me in this case on a much larger scale

than what I am doing in my presence in this thread(IVU)!!

Obviously feel free to comment and express your own feelings, but I am going to respond only if someone states something

with which I disagree quite a bit!!

And to be clear, I will not take the people off of ignore on the IVU Thread to read what they have to say because I am done with

them!!

First, very nice of you to do this. Secondly, your mail order bride is working this perfectly. She brings over 2 more relatives on your inheritance. You are 78 with no social skills so the language barrier won't be a factor and you don't want to spend more than 10 minutes with a 4 year old. God led you to post in the rubber room of a random forum? Senilty is rapidly approaching and when it does, you will have a full house of relatives from Colombia.

I am not sure I fully grasp the overall points you are making but I respect it in any event.

Imo there is a lot of xenophobia in this country and even to some degree in this forum.

I obviously don't feel that way obviously because if I did, I would never marry a lady from Colombia.

Hopefully the title of this thread and my story so far will at least give some people out there who feel very negatively

about people from other countries and/or in this case immigrants at least something to think about!!

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond!!

You married a lady from Colombia because mommy and daddy left you a chunk of money and you lack the social skills to personally meet a suitable mate. Now she is bringing all her relatives here on your parents money

Just a quick update for anyone who may be interested.

My wife's nephew and his four-year-old son have now been residing here for three weeks, and everything is working out great.

Jonathan(the nephew) works 35-40 hours a week and his little boy is a total delight to be around.

He is very well-behaved, is intelligent was toilet-trained well before he arrived here.

The only money I charge him is for food and any increase I see in my electric and water bills-that's it.

According to what is posted on the internet, I could charge him 1/2 of the cost I would of a regular renter if vacated

my home.

According to the large size of my home, the latter amount would be in the neighborhood of 3-4 k a month.

This means that technically speaking I could charge him $1500 to $2000 a month to live here

or at the very least and realistically 1K or a bare minimum of say $500 or so!!

As I said before, I don't regard him as a tenant but rather as a member of my wife's family who is badly in

need of money to take care of himself and child and his wife and their other child living in Colombia!!

No amount of rent money he gave me is going to change my life, so why bother!!

That's it-I am not going to update this thread any further unless something drastic and/or unexpected occurs.

So you don't charge for rent, but you are charging him for food and utilities which amount to pennies? Must be the mail order brides idea. You are dumber than I thought. Who is paying for the next round of relatives?

I am going to add one last thing here and if it seems like I am bragging, so be it.

The bottom line is that I feel very good about myself about the noble and unselfish thing I have done with taking in my wife's 28 year old

nephew and his four-year-old son.

Here are the facts:

If I wanted to rent my whole house entirely without my presence, according to Zillow, here is what I could charge in the way

of rent to someone who could afford it.

The first figure represents the current estimated value of my home and the second is the rent estimate:

Off market
Zestimate®: $641,600Rent Zestimate®: $4,200

According to what I have read on the internet and my brother who is heavily into real estate, if I shared the home with them, the rent

based on all factors would be half of that or around $2100.

I have never rented a room in my spacious home until now(which is actually rent-free) because I don't need the home and

wanted my privacy!!

Now obviously and realistically the above figures don't apply to my wife's nephew and son because based on his income, he couldn't

come close to paying it.

However, using the 30% figure based on his income, I could fairly charge him conservatively around $600 and he would

have to pay at least $1000-$1200 monthly or just a studio apartment and be responsible for all utility bills as opposed

my infinitely much more spacious 3500 square foot home!!

To cut to the chase, I just determined that the added expenses of having him here based on the new bills are about $50 for water

for showering and washing clothes and $20 for drinking water.

The electric bill only added $5 a month.

I am not sure yet how much the gas bill will go up but it shouldn't be that much as my wife simply does all of the cooking for

everyone at the same time.

Thus I am charging him a total of $75 monthly for rent as compared to the figures above.

And yes he has to pay his share for the food but he would have to pay that anyways no matter where he lived!!

What makes me feel especially good is that based on my generosity he has already started sending money home to his wife and

their other child in Colombia!!

Thanks to anyone who read this, and once again if it seems to be boasting and/or self-serving, I apologize!!

I feel great and consider what I am doing as God's work!!
